Sentry Regional Marine Search & Rescue Inc. SRM-SAR
Booth: M1
Description:
SRM-SAR was formed in response to the July 2025 tragedy in which Luc Bourgeois went missing while kayaking near Pointe-du-ChĂȘne Shediac N.B. When the official search ended after two days, family and volunteers from across the region came together. After a week of coordinated effort, Luc was brought home. That experience revealed an urgent truth: our communities need local, trained, and adequately equipped resources that can respond rapidly when lives are at stake.SRM-SAR is a registered non-profit, volunteer-led organization registered in New Brunswick, committed to marine safety and rescue across the Saint John region, Shediac, Dieppe / Moncton, and Caraquet, New Brunswick regions. Beyond emergency response, our mission includes prevention and preparedness. To that end, our immediate priorities include:
* Building a sustainable operating structure to support our SRM-SAR readiness
* Developing and delivering training modules for our volunteer responders
* Launching proactive boating safety awareness and education programmes within our regions of operation ahead of the yearly boating seasons
* Ensuring our teams and equipment are ready to respond when families on the
water need us most, building operational capabilities through training
Support from community partners will directly enhance marine safety for residents, boaters, and visitors by helping us implement these programmes, reducing strain on overburdened public resources, and providing reassurance to families who may one day face emergencies on the water.
Any financial support provided would be directed toward critical operational needs that ensure the effectiveness and readiness of our marine rescue services. This includes:
* Maintenance and planned equipment upgrades of our Zodiac 733 Hurricane 24-ft rescue boat (RIB), fuel costs, and other ongoing operational expenses
* Acquisition of specialized search and navigation equipment, including aerial SAR drones, ROV underwater vehicle, AquaEye handheld sonar, onboard vessel underwater sonar imaging, FLIR marine thermal cameras, Dacon rescue cradle, ACR EPIRBs (personal and onboard GPS locator beacons), and LED search lighting
* Search & Rescue training modules for our teams of volunteers and professionals, focusing on vessel search operations, marine navigation, incident command, GIS mapping, first aid, safety and decision-making, operation of emergency and rescue equipment, leadership and teamwork, environmental and weather awareness, and helicopter air operations
* Communication technology, personal protective gear, and emergency medical
supplies to ensure the safety of both our responders and those they assist
