ALLEN KAY
It all began in 1979 in the Province of New Brunswick Canada, when Allen picked up a bobbin loaded with size “A” black thread to begin making his first salmon fly under the guidance of his father, Don. Over the many years to follow Allen has produced thousands of flies from his fly tying desk. One pattern which stands out is the Ingalls Butterfly which his Dad used on the Salmon Rivers of the province, those of which he gave to others to fish with to entice the mighty Atlantic Salmon. Many fishermen would ask Allen if he would sell him a fly which he was successful with in a certain pool, the reply was usually a resounding “No”. “You cannot pay me for this fly but I will give you this one which I caught the fish with”. He would take the fly from the leader and hand it to the grateful salmon fisherman. “Here use this one, it just caught a fish”.
Some of Allen’s favourite rivers to fish in New Brunswick, are those in the North Central Part of the Province including the Miramichi System. He also is fond of some trout fishing in Eastern New Brunswick near his hometown of Dieppe, where he resides with his wife Rose, a supporter of his fly tying hobby.
His favourite flies to fish Atlantic Salmon with are the Ingalls Butterfly, the Carter’s Bug and the Black Bear Green Butt, the favourite trout fly is the Renegade, and the female Adams.

TODD KENNEDY

(Aka Jock Scott)

I grew up as an Outfitters son in Nova Scotia Canada. I started fishing as far back as I can remember. Started tying flies around 7 years of age and haven't stopped since. Took up fly fishing at the same time.
How did I start tying flies: I was fascinated at looking at fly boxes full of different flies from around the world that clients brought to our lodge. When they brought their fly tying gear I use to watch, and then one day started tying my own. I then use to supply all the flies for clients and guides at the lodge.
What is the first fly I tied: it was so long ago I cannot remember but I do remember tying a 7/0 Lady Amherst salmon fly at a local outdoors show at the age of 10 years old. I'm guessing my first fly would have been a basic hair wing salmon fly.
What was the first fish you caught on a fly you tied and what was the fly: The first fish was a speckled trout on the Stewiacke river using a hairs ear nymph. Favourite fly: I love swinging spey flies in the fall for Atlantic salmon, and  topwater fishing a big deerhair at night for huge brown trout.
Why: I love the look and profile of traditional salmon flies and the feeling I get when I hook a fish on a 200 year old pattern. When fishing brown trout at night I love the sound of a brown hitting a top water fly. Night fishing sharpens all your senses as you don't rely on your sight.

VALMONT LANDRY

I started fishing for trout with my dad and uncles when I was around 6 years old on local rivers, mainly on the Harshman River (presently called Tediche River) close to home in Cap-Pelé.  At first I was bait fishing.   I started fly fishing in my mid-twenties and continued to do so since then.  I always had interest in tying my own flies but could no seem to find the time.  I started tying around 2005 and later joined the Dieppe Fly Tying Club and improved my tying considerably with the help of Jacques Heroux, Bryant Freeman and other experienced fly tiers on the club.  I find fly tying a very relaxing hobby  and spend many hours doing it. I tie salmon and stripped bass flies but my prime interest is in trout flies.
